Hike the Baynard Trail and Rapids Trails at Hillsborough River SP

Plant City, Florida

Description

Added by Kelley Hurley

These easy, short trails have plenty of shade to protect from the Florida heat, and provide great views for pictures.

The Hillsborough River State Park has two short, well-maintained, easy trails that merge together, called the Baynard Trail and the Rapids Trail. The trails are mostly along compacted dirt, but do include a few short sections on elevated boardwalks. The trails include a suspension bridge and a hanging bridge, both of which make for pretty views and are good picture-taking spots, and the River Rapids trail runs along the Hillsborough River and has a short section with water streaming over rocks, which is also quite pretty. It’s easy to go off the trail and reach the water from the River Rapids trail to get better views and close-up pictures, although there are signs asking visitors not to wade or swim (likely due to alligators being present). The trails are very shady so they are suitable for walking in the Florida summer heat, and they are very popular and can get a little crowded, so expect to see other people along your way.
