Hell to get in, hell to get out. Battle mangroves and maze after maze to get the the Hell's Bay Chickee. This was my first camping trip ever, the one that lit the fire in me to explore the world. At sunrise I woke up to splashing, and there was a pod of 6 dolphins hunting right under the chickee platform. It was a magical experience I'll never forget.
Paddle 6.5 miles along the marked trail from the Hell's Bay Canoe Launch to reach your campsite for the evening. Along the way you can stop and stretch your legs on the Lard Can ground site, and the Pearl Bay Chickee. Stay on the trail which is marked by pvc pipes. The next day, head back and retrace your route back to your car.
This trip is a total of 13 miles, but it will probably seem like more. The mangrove maze is fairly intense with twisting and turning. This trail is more easily done in a short kayak or canoe. Tides do not really effect this area of the park, Remember to pack all of your water because there is no fresh water available.
