Stunning walk past turquoise waters, incredibly quaint village and a beautiful high waterfall through a narrow gorge for unbelievable views of the North Atlantic. The beauty and solitude is amazing.
Turning left at the first road once arriving in the village of Saksun, we drove to the end of the road to find the trailhead out to the sea. We parked the car and made our way down the trail alongside a river and many free roaming sheep. The river lets out into a beautiful bay where we watched a dainty waterfall with picturesque buildings (adding colour to the green landscape). We walked along the beach, stopping for a snack and a bit of relaxation and dipped our toes into the frigid water.
Following the cliffs out to the water, we headed into the narrow gorge which brought us out to the wavy, endless ocean. The dramatic mountainsides provided great shelter for us to sit and enjoy the views before turning back as the tide began to roll in. Because the opening to the bay from the ocean is fairly narrow, be sure to watch the tide so that you can stay dry while walking back. There are tons of sheep along the path and up the cliff sides - if you go in May you will see tons of lamb.
