Letting Go

Letting go of fears and worries is the only way to be free to tell your own story.

By: Emma McCormick + Save to a List

Letting go is hard, everyone has had to let go of something, someone, some place at some point in their lives.  It never gets easier.  I had to learn how to let go of my fears, my routines, comforts, and negative thoughts.  I needed to learn to let go or van life would never have worked.

It took me a few weeks to finally let go, to really feel free.  I had fears about leaving our life in Toronto and they were real fears; ones that couldn't be discarded.  I worried about our house, leaving our jobs, our friends, family, and a community we have been a part of for a long time.  I was worried about leaving and finding a new place to live, and worried I would never come home.  I was worried that if I left I could never settle down because the world is big and I need to see it.

But all those fears were outweighed by the one fear that mattered, the fear that drove me to this life, what if I stayed and I always wondered.  So I let go and we left.

In a world so obsessed with negative talk and pressures that don't matter,  I found a place that allowed me to let that all go, and find it hard to pick them back up again. I learned how to worry less and take control of my life more.  I let go of societies story that was assigned to me and started writing my own,  I was only able to see my story because I stepped out and found it.

I know this life is not for everyone,  I wouldn't tell anyone to do what I did.  However,  I will tell you to stop giving into worries and fears and give into what really matters, finding your story and living a life you chose.

Let go and begin writing your story.
