Bike this easy yet scenic trail through hardwood forests, agricultural fields, and coastal marshes

The 5.8 mile Junction and Breakwater Trail connects the resort towns of Lewes and Rehoboth Beach. The trail follows a section of the old Penn Central Rail Line, which transported passengers between Lewes and Rehoboth in the mid-1800s.

Today, the trail offers a beautiful tour of the marshes, farmland, and forests that lie beyond the usual tourist stops. Suitable for biking, hiking, running, and pet-walking, the trail is a popular destination for visitors and locals alike.

There are multiple access points to the trail, but I find the easiest entrance point is at the trailhead behind the Tanger Outlet mall in Rehoboth. Enter the outlet complex, and drive straight to the back past the intersection with Calvin Klein on the right. The road will dead end in a dirt parking lot, which is the start of the trail.

Park and enjoy the trail!
