Hike to Catarata del Toro

Catarata del Toro is located in the small town of Bajos del Toro. This waterfall is located on a private reserve in the rain forest that includes nature trails, a hummingbird garden, a restaurant, restrooms, and more. There is a $10 (5000 colones) entrance fee.

The beginning of the trail is fairly flat and easy, but does not last long until you reach a set of around 400 concrete stairs that continue winding down towards the base of the waterfall. Watch your step when going down here. It can get pretty steep and some of the steps are uneven. The hike can be extremely difficult for some coming back up and it is not recommended for those with a heart condition.

If you are not sure about the hike, Catarata del Toro can be seen from just outside the restaurant!

There are several viewpoints of the waterfall located along the trail so be sure to soak in these amazing views! The last section of the trail is fairly muddy so please watch your step when approaching the waterfall.

Hours are 8am to 5pm Monday through Saturday and are closed on Sundays 

Catarata del Toro is located off of Route 708 and is about a 2 hour drive from the capital of San Jose. When coming from the South, drive towards Sarchi and then through the small town of Bajos del Toro. The drive is along a scenic mountain road and when you approach the reserve you will see a huge sign for Catarata del Toro on your left.
