Hike & Camp Through Grand Mesa National Park at Ward Creek Reservoir
Delta County, United States
Description
Added by Andrew Deitrick
Grand Mesa National Forest is a hidden gem in Collbran, CO that is full of beautiful lakes, streams, and forests. It is a great pitstop if traveling west to Telluride, CO or elsewhere on the Western Slope.
Grand Mesa National Forest is home to a high number of first come first serve camping spot. One of my favorite spots is near the Ward Creek Reservoir towards the western edge of the forest. Heading south/west, look for a small outlet just pass the reservoir on the east side of the road (you should be able to see camp fire rings). On a good day, you'll have a great view of the sunset to the west of the camp. Most of my photos are taken along the edge of the reservoir facing west at around 8PM in June.
There are several out & back loops within a short walk or drive from the camp spot that are ideal for day hikes and beautiful views.
If you don't want to rough it for the night, head down to Cedaredge for dinner at a small-town restaurant.
