Ski Whitewater Resort
Nelson, British Columbia
Description
Added by Kyle Frost
Located just outside Nelson, BC, this small and authentic resort boasts over 40ft of snowfall a year and steep, fun terrain.
Whitewater is a short 20 minute drive from downtown Nelson. There are only 3 lifts here, but a surprising amount of terrain — most of which will satisfy even the strongest of skiers. Our favorite runs were the Trash Glades, accessed via a short traverse off the backside of the Motherlode Chair (and the boot-pack above the traverse that’ll get you a few more creamy turns).
This isn’t a resort that has a ton of options for beginner skiers — a blue run here can’t be compared to a blue at someplace like Vail, or Keystone. Much of this is because very few runs on the mountain are groomed. If you're here looking for steep trees, plenty of features to jump off of, and spectacular hike-to terrain, this is a great spot. The food at the base area is great, parking is easy (unless it's a really deep day), and much of the time it can feel like you've got the resort to yourself.
Whitewater is the place to be for a no-frills, authentic, Canadian ski experience, and a great stop if you're road-tripping the Powder Highway.
