The Canadian Shield is a truly remarkable location, and Reel North Outfitters at McTavish Lake offers a secluded getaway for lovers of fishing and of the outdoors.
McTavish Lake can only be accessed by flying in from Missinipe at Osprey Wings to a lodge called Reel North Outfitters. The flight is approximately 20 minutes in a float plane. Reel North Outfitters features three cabins for sleeping, a shower room, and a main kitchen/gathering area. All meals are provided, which include homestyle cooking and a bagged lunch each day.
Small fishing boats are provided to guests, and the fishing was great! Limits include: 3 Northern Pike, 2 Trout, 3 Walleye and 5 Whitefish to keep. Since this is the only place to access the lake for fishing, you will be joined only by other trip participants for as far as you can see.
Located in the Canadian Shield, scenery is amazing and eagles, loons, otter, mink, caribou, moose and bear are among the species you may encounter during your visit. Staff was very personable and the group atmosphere added a lot of fun to the trip overall. Total cost starts at $850, and 2,4 and 7 day trips are available.
