Beautiful sand dunesRiver for swimming, fishing, and canoeingAvoid the crowds

Just outside of Collingwood, Ontario, along the Nottawasaga River, sits golden caves and huge sand dunes, towering over 25 feet. These are some of the largest and most beautiful sand dunes in Collingwood, although few know of this treasure, as tourists spend their days lounging and swimming on an equally beautiful (although highly populated) beach nearby. The river below is clean enough and calm enough to swim, and even fish in.

This is the perfect spot to sit and have a picnic, chill with friends, go for a dip, or even toss a canoe in the water and see where the river takes you. The best time to go is just before sunset, when the sand is cooling off, and the sun's reflection lights up the dunes.

Warning: Climbing back up the dunes is a lot harder then going down!

Parking is available at the beach. If you plan to hike or paddle to the dunes, or want to preserve the secrecy of the location, vehicles can also be parked at the Wasaga Beach water treatment plant.
