• 360 views• Quiet trails• Short day hike• 2090 m elevation
Needle peak is a popular, year round trail, offering 360 views of the Coquihalla area. With a starting elevation of 1210 meters, the majority of elevation gained is in the first 45minutes.
The trail starts from exit 217 (the Zopkios rest area), on the south side of the Coquihalla highway.Immediately from the parking lot the trail climbs. The uphill struggle is soon forgotten as you wind through the trees. You are greeted with your first view, around 30 minutes up the trail where the forest clears to an alpine meadow. In spring, summer and fall the colours here are vivid and air is sweet. This trail offers full views from the meadow and after a quick scramble, you can summit the rocky peak. The views here are spectacular, it's a wonder more people haven't been here!
Don't underestimate these mountains, the weather can change quickly, so be prepared for changing conditions!
On the way home don't forget to stop in Hope at the Blue Moose Coffee House for a brew (coffee, or beer).
