Easy road access and parkingThree lake views for all levels (0.5 km-10 km round trip) with an elevation gain of 400mCan be 5 minutes to view the first lake or a day to see them all!Scenic trails with old growth forest, waterfalls, glacier and of course; the lakes
Joffre lakes is located only a couple hours from Vancouver, in Pemberton British Columbia. Offering scenic views of Matier glacier, waterfalls and the three lakes, it is a must see. The easy access and parking makes it a well travelled trail for summer hikers, and a fun snowshoe trail in the winter.
The first lake greets you only a couple minutes down the trail. Giving a tease for what is to come, the trail winds around the lake and carries on and up! Recently there has been significant trail maintenance, and a new trail to the upper lake passing a beautiful waterfall.
The 5.5 km to the upper lake flies by, while enjoying the fresh smells and beautiful views. Due to the location, these lakes have large amounts of suspended "rock flour" creating the beautiful turquoise colors we see. In theory, if this is you're 'thing' sunny, spring-summer days will provide the best colors.
Not only is this a great day hike, for only 5$/ night, there are numerous camping spaces. There are spots available beside the waterfall, around the lake, and closer towards the glacier. The mid-left portion of Matier Glacier is still active, occasionally breaking apart - keep your ears and eyes open!
