Explore Banteay Kdei Temple

Krong Siem Reap, Cambodia

Description

Added by John Maurizi

Explore a temple that is not fully restored. Banteay Kdei is offers some really good photographic opportunities with far less tourist than other locations in Angkor.

Banteay  Kdei complex is located southeast of Ta Prohm and typically visited as part of the small circuit through Angkor. It is best for your Tuk Tuk driver to drop you off at the west end of the temple and wait for you at the east end of the temple.  This way you can make your way through the temple and not have to back-track.

Banteay Kdei is not as well preserved as Ta Prohm or some of the other temples. Built at the end of the 12th century, the construction material is a much softer sandstone. Bantaey Kdei has not been restored much. You will see many halls and towers that have crumbled. However, there is still a lot standing and the mixture gives a unique perspective.  Take this as an advantage.  Many people spend their time at the fully restored locations but there is some great things to see here.  Definitely worth the time to explore.
