Description

Added by Clayton Herrmann

Take a walk among some of the tallest trees in the world.

Hike not so deep into the heart of the Redwoods and get lost among the vertical grandeur. Drive Howland Hill Road, a magical narrow dirt road engulfed by redwoods, to Stout Grove. Proceed to park, and begin at the marked trail head a few steps from the parking lot. Immediately you will begin your walk in the shadows of the giant redwoods. The Stout Grove loop trail is .5 miles long, short and relatively flat. A separate trial, starting at the middle of the loop, will take you close to the river. Although the loop is short, the crowds are small and the beauty is plentiful. Much of the scenery is natural, since the park service has removed all signs with tree names and fences. Don't fret, you will know which ones are the tallest.

Camp in Jedediah Smith Campground for an equally beautiful spot to pitch the tent.
