California Mishaps

When you get all of your stuff stolen, what do you do next?

By: Braxton Gore + Save to a List

When traveling to new places, the first step (for me) is making sure that I bring all of the proper camera gear. I was going to be visiting San Fransisco and Yosemite for my first time, ever. Hiking around in Yosemite had always been a dream of mine. So, I knew that I needed to bring as much gear as I could in order to create the best content possible.

Before making our way to Yosemite, however, we spent a few days in San Fransisco. Our very first stop was at Baker's Beach, which is a beach with a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge. We parked on the side of the road and went to take pictures for roughly 10 minutes. I had been looking forward to seeing the Golden Gate Bridge for a while now so this was very exciting. When we we walking back to our car we noticed that one of the windows was down. Right as I noticed that, I instantly new what had happened. It was the window of the seat that I was sitting at and I knew that the window was up the whole time. This means that the window was broken in to. We quickly ran up to the car to find all of our backpacks missing and glass all over the interior.

At this time, we had only been in California for not even 3 hours. It was definitely the worst start to a trip that I had ever experienced. The unfortunate part was that my backpack was full of all of my camera gear and laptop. Luckily, since we were out taking picture of the bridge, I had my camera body and zoom lens.

So, we went on and replaced some of the stuff that was needed and carried on with the trip. Those next two days in San Fransisco were definitely a bust while my mindset was not the same. It was still exciting exploring a new city. Being from Oklahoma and exploring a city like San Fransisco is a very big change.

Then it was finally time for Yosemite. I was sort of bummed because I knew I didn't have all of the camera gear that I had originally packed so that I could get the perfect shots while there. The first day, we took our time and explored Glacier Point and Taft Point. I had always seen other peoples picture while at these spots and was thrilled to finally be these myself. I quickly learned that I never needed all of my camera gear to get the shots that I wanted. After taking 10 pictures, I already had 5 that I was happy with. We spent a total of three days in Yosemite exploring every single corner of the park. These 3 days definitely made up for the first day in San Fransisco. With only my camera body and a basic zoom lens, I still managed to grab tons of images that I will forever be in love with.

Even though the trip started with a very unfortunate event, it definitely ended with a bang.
