Chasin Waterfalls Part 2 - Machine Falls, Tullahoma, TN

By: Billy Carroll + Save to a List

Visited my second waterfall on my "Chasin Waterfalls" adventure today.  I ventured past my first stop Rutledge Falls to Short Springs Natural Area just outside of Tullahoma, TN to visit "Machine Falls".  The drive from Nashville took a little over an hour and my GPS led me right to the Trailhead located at Short Springs Road and Powell Road.  Once there I grabbed my camera gear and tripod and headed down the trail where I was faced with a decision...White or Blue???  I should have paid more attention to the tips posted by previous visitors on the Interweb.  I might have save me some confusment!  I started out on Blue and seemed to hike 15-20 minutes before coming to a intersection with White.  I could hear the falls so I left Blue & went white.  I did not realize there are two falls...Machine Falls and Busby Falls.  I am still confused as to how I got there but I eventually ended up at Machine Falls.  I will do my research and return another day to check out Busby Falls. I gotta say for a 50+ out of shape person I was challenged by the hike.  Lots of steep climbs and descents along the trail.  I really need to invest in some good hiking shoes/boots as my sneakers proved a bit unstable along the rocky trail.  Once I reached Bobo Creek it was just a short distance to the falls and I was not disappointed.  I spent a couple of hours taking pics from different angles while wading in the cool water.  Beautiful beautiful place.  I plan to return soon....hopefully in better shape and with some hiking boots!
