Living on a Belizean island
Belize, Belize

For anyone with an incredibly adventurous spirit and the will to travel outside their comfort zone and day to day life. Great experience with life changing people.
It began after landing in Belize City. From there we took a small 12 seat plane to Dangriga, Belize where we landed on a dirt run way. We then carried on to the taxi(an old pickup truck with no windows) which brought us to the dock where we would eventually set off for the island. The boat ride was approximately 2 hours long through 10 ft swells in a 22 ft uncovered fiberglass boat(the Hangman). We would use this boat through the next ten days. We landed on the 15 acre island where we discovered our living arrangements for the next ten days. This included the bare necessities but in a way it was so much more than we needed. The trip was a volunteer program to catch and tag sharks with our bare hands. We also snorkeled through glovers reef where we got within feet of barracuda, stingray, lion fish, moray eels, and different kinds of sharks. The island itself included its fair share of dangers as well. This included spiders, snakes, the sun, thousands of gigantic crab, mosquitoes, and the famous croc. We were provided free time where we played soccer with some of the belize natives on the island, relaxed in the outdoor hammocks, or explored the island. This was a fantastic adventure and educational experience where I was able to meet incredible people and take in incredible beauty.
