A stunning trail with many waterfalls in the beautiful Stubai Valley. This hike is stage 2 of the WildWater Trail.

The Sulzenau Hut is a popular destination for hikers in the Stubai Valley in Tirol. There are a few different routes to approach the hut, but for this adventure, we took the route that follows the WildWater Trail (WilderWasser Weg).

We started this route from the Grawa Alm at the foot of the Grawa Waterfall. From the viewing platform at the bottom of the waterfall, on the right just as you step off the platform, you'll find a trail that leads up and in to the forest. This forest path is a mixture of rocky dirt footpaths and wooden ladder-like walkways. The ground here is almost always wet and the trail can be quite slippy, especially after heavy rainfall. As you follow the trail up through the forest, you'll reach a couple of viewing platforms for the waterfall.

Once you leave the forest, the path flattens out and you'll soon find yourself on a flatter, wider gravel path which leads to the Sulzenau Alm, a mountain hut that sits in the valley basin, surrounded my more dramatic waterfalls.

At the end of the valley basin, the largest of the waterfalls powers down the rock face, and at the top you'll see the Sulzenau Hut. The path up to the Sulzenau Hut begins close to the base of the waterfall, and zig-zags its way up the mountainside until it reaches the flat rocks upon where the Sulzenau Hut stands.

To reach the Sulzenau Hut from the Grawa Alm, it's 7.5 km in one direction, which can be completed in around 2.5-3 hours. The Sulzenau Hut serves food and drink, and after a refuel, it's possible to do the return hike the same day.

We booked a bed in the Sulzenau Hut so that we could get up early for a mountain sunrise, and carry on hiking the next morning.

The Sulzenau Hut is part of the WildWater Trail and is also a stop on the Stubai High Trail. From the hut there are 3 beautiful lakes that you can hike to as well as the Sulzenau Ferner glacier.

At the Sulzenau Hut there are some short climbing & via ferrata training routes as well as a via ferrata route down the waterfall.
