It is called Ooh-Aah Point for a reason! Some of the best views you will get from the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.
This is a moderately challenging hike, relatively short (1.8 miles round trip), with absolutely incredible views. To access this hike you start at the South Kaibab Trailhead located on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Private vehicles are not allowed, you must access the trail via the park's shuttle bus that runs to Yaki Point on Yaki Point Road. Shuttles run quickly and efficiently and will return you to your vehicle after you have finished your hike. The hike begins at 7,260 ft in elevation. You will descend down some steep but well maintained switch backs until you reach the Ooh-Aah lookout point at 6,660 ft. You can choose to turn back after this point (.9 miles) making your way back out the way you came in for a total of 1.8 mile hike. This trail also gives you access to Cedar Ridge and Skeleton Point. For more information on those hikes check out NPS's website as there are many cautions to consider when attempting longer hikes in the canyon.
As for Ooh-Aah point, it is a perfect day hike for nearly every season. The park service cautions hikers in the winter as the trail is very steep and can be slippery as it is most often covered with snow. They recommend hiking poles and crampons. I personally did this hike in Early January and it was definitely cold and the trail was covered in snow so dress warmly! However, it was definitely worth the beautiful snow capped views. If you are a relatively inexperienced hiker I would suggest trying this hike out in the Spring or Summer for your first time! Water is available at the trailhead but not along the trail so be sure to bring adequate water (bottle or hydration pack) especially if you are attempting this hike in the much warmer summer months.
There is more to see than just the view at the lookout point. There are plenty of other scenic moments on the way down such as large rock overhangs and beautiful forest. I hope you enjoy this hike as much as I did!
