Waterfalls, scenery
The first mile and a half is a steep 1500 foot decline. It then slowly descends for the next 6.5 miles to the town of Supai. Along the way you'll pass mule trains going to and from the trailhead carrying supplies and passengers. After arriving at the town of Supai and checking in, it's another two mile trek to the campsites. On the way you'll see two of the five major waterfalls the canyon has to offer. As you enter the campsites you're welcomed by the famous Havasu Falls. A beautiful 150 foot waterfall with clear, blue water which automatically makes the ten mile hike you've just done all worth it. Continue on the path and pick out you're campsite. There are designated areas about a mile along the river. Pretty much anywhere you pitch your tent will be an awesome view for your trip but the further down the river you go the better the sites get. The next waterfall to see is Mooney Falls, which is where the river takes a 200 foot plunge. To get to the bottom is a series of steps, wooden ladders and chains to hold on to. If you make it down that keep going another 4 miles along the river. After a couple of creek crossings and beautiful scenery you'll find yourself looking a Beaver Falls. Although it doesn't have the "wow" factor of height like the other ones, it still holds it's own as far as beauty goes. We found that a four day, three night stay was enough to get to experience all the waterfalls and enjoy our stay, although we could have easily stayed a week. The breathtaking beauty of the waterfalls and oasis-like scenery, along with good company, makes this trip one you'll always be ready to repeat.
