Our Experience:

While binoculars have been a piece of gear I've owned several of over the years, I've tended to regard them as something that has its place in my gear bag on occasion, but more often than not leave them sitting in my closet. My first set of binoculars, given to me by a relative, were a bulky, strappy, heavy piece of gear. Taking a chance on a pair of Nocs Provisions Standard Issue 8x25 Binoculars, I've found that very occasional use doesn't need to be the case.

Gripping a pair of Nocs Provisions Binoculars, it's clear that the recent wave of tech and design infatuation has made its way into taking on and improving the existing standard of optics. While there are no radical changes from the function and form, Nocs Provisions has made some changes to the overall package to improve the quality while making everything more lightweight and accessible.

With a magnification of 8X (a fancy number meaning the visual scale effectively puts the user 8 times nearer to the object), Nocs Provisions Binoculars have the equivalent of looking through a 400mm camera lens. They're small with an ergonomic textured grip making it easy to hold them with one hand. Build and materials make them waterproof - even if fully submerged - and fog resistant, ideal for use in a variety of outdoor conditions. The creators state that their goal was making a set of binoculars that prioritized durability in a portable size, which is a welcome change from the bulkier pairs that I'm used to carrying.

Weighing just 13 ounces, their compact size makes it much easier to throw these into a pouch on my pack or leave them lying in the passenger seat of my car for easy retrieval. One benefit to carrying these with me, as a photographer, has been that it is a lot easier to keep these around my neck and use them to compose shots with my telephoto lens, rather than carrying my much heavier camera with me. And while the textured rubber grip claims to make these resistant to breaking upon being dropped, I opted not to test this out, so I can't confirm this.

The packaging uses recycled materials, and Nocs Provisions is a 1% For The Planet member. I also got the Woven Tapestry Strap with my set, which has been a little more comfortable than the thinner neck strap that came included.

In all, Nocs Provisions seems to have addressed many of the issues that I had with my previous sets of binoculars. More efficient design is at work in order to make Nocs Provisions binoculars incredibly functional and high quality while minimizing their size and weight, and allowing them to stand up to a variety of elements that outdoor users may expect to find themselves in. The result has been me taking these with me on most of my outdoor trips and car rides into the backcountry, rather than just pulling them along for certain outings like I did with my older bulkier pairs.
