Photograph the Upper Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park

If Old Faithful doesn’t fulfill your geyser quota, you’re in luck!

The Upper Geyser Basin is home to a multitude of unique hot springs and geysers that look just plain cool. A boardwalk loops its way along the aptly named Firehole River passing Geyser Hill, Grand Geyser, and Castle Geyser, to name a few. You could easily spend a few hours photographing this region, though Brian could only handle so much of the smell before he was ready to move on to our next destination in Yellowstone.

The Basin boardwalks have several entrances along the Old Faithful Parking area, and are easy to navigate. If you can't visit at sunrise or sunset when crowds are smaller, we recommend trying to get in as many photos as possible when Old Faithful is erupting, as most people will be drawn to watch the show.

If you are hungry after your visit, we recommend grabbing a burger at the counter of the Old Faithful Basin Store. National Park food generally isn't very good, but this place was definitely an exception.

Oh So Unique

12 of my closest friends and I took a snowmobile tour through Yellowstone, stopping at Upper Geyser Basin along the way. The scenery is breathtaking. We were lucky enough to witness a bunch of Bison hanging out around the pools too which only amplified the experience. For photographers, this is definitely a must stop within the park!
