Explore Mammoth Hot Springs

Details

Added by Layne Allison

These natural hot springs are absolutely magnificent yet unique. Just off the road and located near a popular tourist town this makes for an awesome day trip. Easy parking, bathrooms and restaurants nearby make for an easy and family friendly trip.

These natural hot springs are crazy cool and very rare, which makes for an unforgettable trip. The hot springs are located right off of highway 89. With easy parking, restrooms and a town less than half a mile up the road this location is very convenient. The area provides boardwalks which makes viewing the springs close and personal. It is HIGHLY ADVISED TO NOT WANDER OFF THE BOARDWALKS, the ground is very unstable in the area. This area is very populated with Elk and predators of the Elk which influence the Elk to wander and chill in the local town for safety.

A camera is an essential for this trip. You won't want to forget this experience. During the summer it can get hot so LOTS of WATER and SUN SCREEN. During the winter seasons it can get chilly so bring layers, rain jacket for sporadic weather change and an umbrella.

Amazingly accessible geothermal feature!

It is definitely worth walking around on the boardwalk- I would recommend checking out all of the hot springs, as they're all unique. They're pretty photogenic, too.

Must do in Yellowstone

The colors are like that if another planet. A tip is bring lunch and have a picnic in near the entrance here. Then spend some time exploring some lesser known sites in this region of the park.

My favorite time for Mammoth is winter.

The Hot Springs at Mammoth are a must do if you are in Yellowstone. They are gorgeous any time of year. I love winter in this part of the park as you can be the only ones on the entire trail at many given times. Also, if there in winter, there are cross country ski trails around the hot springs and we have skied here a couple of times and had a blast.
