Description

Added by Rose Freeman

Lena Lake is a 6-mile round trip hike where you'll wander through a mossy forest to a lake surrounded by trees and valleys.

The trail climbs gently up and is accessible almost every season, weather permitting. Snowshoes may be needed December-February, so make sure and check with the Hoodsport Ranger Station.

Just 45 minutes north of Hoodsport (a darling small town on the shores of Puget Sound), this trailhead has space for about 30 cars in a lot off of paved Hamma Hamma road. The trail climbs gently through second growth forest up switchbacks into sections of an old-growth forest. You will hear Lena Creek as you traverse up through the trees. At the top of the first ridge, the trail wanders deeper into the forest and across two bridges. From there, the trail ascends several more switchbacks until you reach the lake. When you arrive, the fork right takes you down to the shores of Lena Lake. The main trail left leads you to a rocky overlook above the lake and several campsites. Enjoy your favorite hot drink and enjoy the view!

Lena Lake is an excellent hike for families or more experienced explorers who want to continue up to Upper Lena Lake.

Since this trail is on the Olympic Peninsula be prepared for rapidly changing weather and make sure to wear waterproof layers!

After your hike, make sure and stop by my favorite spot - Hoodsport Coffee Company!

Lena Lake Reviews

Good hike. Easy. Go on a weekday so you avoid people. Gone three times. Possible to get in snow. Tons of moss and old trees. With upper Lena lake and the brothers above. It leaves more to be desired

Great hike. Lots of nature to see. I plan on going back in the summertime to camp overnight.

Amazing hike! Caught the trail on a dry morning and everything seemed to line up perfectly. Sunshine, fog, light rays, waterfalls, wood bridges, a lake... 10/10 will do again.
