This hike is just one hour from Seattle near a popular ski resort. You are surrounded by mountains the whole time.

The Kendal Peak Lakes Trailhead is very easy to get to, located off of exit 54 on i-90. There are porta potties at the trailhead. A gradual climb begins at 2700 ft. It is a fairly easy ascent going up an old closed forest service road. The trail is nice and wide with an easy grade the whole way up. Families come here to go sledding within the first mile of the trailhead so watch out for people mobbing down the trail. To get to the top, just stay on the road the whole time until the very end of the road where the trail cuts to the left into some taller trees.

Once to the lakes there are no real views besides the lakes due to the fact that you need to climb down about 50ft which ends up blocking all views beside the lakes. However from the highest point of the trail you can see all the surrounding mountains, and even the top of Mt. Rainier. Depending on how cold it has been, the lakes can be frozen to the point where it is possible to walk on them but have no idea where they are. Please be careful at this point and try to avoid walking on the lake. This snowshoe takes about two hours up and slightly less on the way down.
