Hike along the AT to one of Virginia's most famous peaks.

Upon reaching the Upper Crabtree parking lot (at Crabtree Meadows campground), walk left out of the parking lot and up the fire road. It is a steep ascent up the fire road for half a mile. At the top of the hill, the AT crosses the road (boulders flank the road on either side at this point), and you will follow the white-blazed trail up to the left.

After 1 mile on the AT, you will come to the sign post for The Priest shelter. It is .1 mile off trail, and it has a table and a privy. There is also a small stream there (don't forget to filter!). Continue north on the AT for half a mile until you reach an outcropping of rocks to your left. Here you will get expansive views across the valley below. This is the main viewpoint. The summit is just ahead further north on the AT, but there are no views there.
