Hike to Barney's Wall

This hike can be combined with the hike to Cascade Falls to create an 8 mile roundtrip hike. On weekends and nice days, the falls area will likely be crowded, but continuing on to Barney's Wall will provide more solitude and incredible views.

The trailhead is in the upper right corner of the parking lot. It takes you to a bridge, which you will cross over to take the Lower Falls Trail. You will come upon another bridge after about a mile that will take you back to the Upper Falls Trail and leads to the lower Cascade Falls. At this point, you will continue up the wooden stairs and to the left.

After 200 yards or so, you reach a sign post pointing to the Conservancy Trail. Take this fire road for about half a mile. When it forks, go left again. Then you will come to another fork. Follow the yellow-blazed trail for another mile or so until you reach another sign post directing you to Barney's Wall. It is about a half-mile past this final post and continues to be yellow-blazed. There is a rock outcropping with a great view of the valley below where you can sit and eat lunch and enjoy the view! Simply retrace your steps to return to the parking lot.

Getting there: Coming from Christiansburg, VA, take US 460 W until you reach Pembroke, VA. Turn right onto T-623, or Cascade Dr. You will see a sign directing you to the Cascade Falls parking area. There is a $3 fee to park, which is strictly enforced (even in bad weather) with a $75 fine.
