Description

Added by Jackson Smith

USA Bowl is a great low angle, wide open backcountry ski that has relatively low avalanche danger and easy ascent to the peak. Perfect for beginner backcountry skiers and for days when the avalanche danger is questionable.

To get the the trailhead, drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon until you reach the upper entrance into Solitude Ski Resort. You can park on the road just below the entrance to the resort. Across the street is a road called Old Stage Road, this is where the trail head begins. The road is covered in snow in the winter so you can put your skis on here and follow it up. Eventually the skin track splits off up the mountain, follow this track up through the aspens until you reach the bowl and it leads right up through the middle of USA Bowl up to the ridge line. Here you can refuel with a snack and transition to ski mode. USA Bowl is perfect for making a few laps and offers amazing powder turns if you can get to the snow before the wind or sun spoils the pow.

Overall elevation gain is 1,700 feet with a max elevation of 9,884 feet.

Make sure to check to avalanche forecast for the day before you ever travel in the backcountry. Know before you go!
