This is a gorgeous mountain lake that is near Red Pine Lake, but gets a fraction of the number of visitors.

This out and back hike begins at the same trailhead as White Pine Lake and Red Pine Lake which are both a lot more popular that Maybird Lakes. You follow the trail to Red Pine Lake for the first 2.5 miles and then there is a bridge and you follow that across the river to get on the trail to Maybird.

The trail is steep in places, but overall, the hike is not too difficult. There are some amazing views looking down the entire canyon on the way. The last .25 miles to the lake can be a little bit tricky, but just search for some cairns and they should take you along the easiest path (we added some new ones a few weeks ago when I was there)

The 2 lakes are rather small (in comparison to Red and White) but they are very clear and very still. This allows you to see some amazing reflections of the looming Pfeifferhorn peak that is behind the lakes. Such a gorgeous view especially if you can catch it at sunset. it is definitely one of my favorite views in the Wasatch.

The hike is 7.5 miles RT with 2000 ft elevation gain. When you get down Wing Coop is one of favorite after hike places to grab a bite. Honey Habenero is my absolute favorite flavor!

Hike to Maybird Lakes (Maybird Gulch) Reviews

I hiked here on a Tuesday, and although I passed some people on the way up, I ended up having the whole spot to myself. Found a nice spot to hang my hammock and chill for a bit before heading back down. The hike took me about 3 hours (plus one hour of hammocking) total. Gorgeous views!
