Description

Added by Eric Bennett

Grotto Falls is a unique and picturesque semi-hidden waterfall. There are hardly any crowds for this short beginners hike and there's easy access with campgrounds nearby.

Heading in the canyon you will drive along a winding road for a while until you pass through a gate (Closed during Winter, this is where you will need to pull over and continue down the road on foot) about a mile up you will see a trailhead on the left called "Bennie Creek" and right after you will see the "Grotto Trail" sign on the left just up the road. You will see many mini trails branching off but just stay on the main one that follows along the creek. You will have to zig zag a few times across the creek. The waterfall is at the end of the trail just about 0.15 miles from the trailhead.

The waterfall is the strongest during the spring, although it looks cool with some snow and ice in the winter. It's a great hike if you want to get away for a bit and don't have too much time. There are also lots of campsites nearby along the same road. Definitely stop by if you are in the area!

Grotto Falls Reviews

Went up in December. As you get up there the road is closed and gated off. We decided to hike the rest of the way to the trail head which was approximately a mile. Plenty of ice on the road under the snow so crampons are advised. When we got to the grotto, the water had all frozen leaving a beautiful ice column we could walk right up to. A really stunning secluded area. No one was around. I’d highly recommend in the winter.

This is an extremely short hike and pretty fun for elderly people or small kids. You can keep going past the waterfall but there's not much to see. Weekends are a little bit busier.

Once you get to the falls, it is really pretty and is a nice area to play around in. The walk is definitely short, and would be really good for a family with smaller children that is not wanting to walk miles for some nice scenery.
