Adams Canyon Trail is the most popular hiking trail in Layton. Dogs are allowed on this hike to a scenic 40-foot Waterfall.

The trailhead is at a dirt parking lot with a lot of parking, but on Saturday mornings it can get full and people are forced to park on the street.

As you start off, there are a few steep and sandy switchbacks. They don't last too long but on a hot day it can seem like forever. After that, the trail will continue to be steep but won't switchback nearly as often. Follow the trail through the forest and eventually it will start to get a little rocky. There is a bridge to cross the stream at one point. Near the waterfall, there is no bridge to cross the stream but plenty of rocks to hop across.

There will be a lot of dogs on this trail as well as people. Sometimes it can get slick and muddy especially in the Spring when the snow melt is high. Total elevation gain on this hike is 1,420 feet. There are also a ton of camping spots near the trail if you would like to spend the night, one time I saw a father and a son panning for gold in the river.

We did this hike last Sat. Feb 20th. We all the snow it was a beautiful hike and a lot of fun. Some spots were slippery and steep but it made for some really fun scrambling. Doing this hike in the winter is good cause you avoid all the crowds... We took our dog and she loved it! Everyone was super friendly beside one gentleman that was upset that my dog was off leash. What's the point of taking a dog hiking if they have to be on leash. Get over it guy, you don't own the trails and dogs make everything more fun anyways! 🐶🐾😉

This is such a fun and pretty hike with a lot to offer in any season. It is very popular on the weekends so get there early to avoid the crowds and the heat at the beginning of the hike. When hiking here in the evening or on weekdays, there are far fewer people. There are a few smaller waterfalls before the big one and it's fun to stop and photograph them. The trail can get slippery leading up to the waterfall so make sure you wear appropriate shoes. When the flow is high, your feet will probably get wet. The wildflowers are quite beautiful here when in season.

This is a must in early or late summer. The first couple of miles are pretty exposed, so avoid hiking mid-day.
