Explore the lush Lady Clough Woodland which offers quiet forest and riverside walking trails

This trail begins on the other side of the A57 main road across from the Snake Pass Inn. After crossing the road from the Snake Pass Inn, turn right and walk along the verge until you reach woodland on your left. Shortly after this, follow some steps on your left and over a stile into the wood. Follow the path downhill past the Snake Woodland sign. At the bottom of the valley turn right, following the forest fence on your right hand side. At the footbridge over Ladyclough, don't cross but instead, use the gate of the right to return to the forest. Head left and follow a stream for 500 metres upstream until you reach a road bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the track beyond uphill. Ignore a track that heads uphill to the right, keeping along the main track as it levels off and views of Kinder Scout appear. As soon as the track leaves the woodland for the open moor, take a steep and faint path off to the left that leads through bracken (ferns) down to the River Ashop. Turn left and follow a path downstream with the river on your right and the forest edge on your left. When you reach the footbridge over Lady Clough again, cross and turn right. Return the way you came: look on your left for the path you descended earlier and follow it up through conifers to the road. Then turn right to return to the Snake Pass Inn. Be sure to stop in for lunch or refreshments. Also, you cannot park in the Snake Pass Inn car park unless you are using the pub.
