Itinerary

Victoria Falls

The tour starts at 15:00hrs on Day 1 with a pre departure meeting in the hotel. That afternoon is free to view Victoria Falls - without doubt one of the greatest and most spectacular sights in Africa. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure to explore the Falls or take part in some of the many optional activities on offer in the adrenalin capital of Africa (own expense). Overnight Cresta Sprayview Hotel (or similar).

Chobe River (approx 90 kms/3 hrs drive)

After lunch we cross into Botswana and establish our camp on the banks of the Chobe River. Chobe National Park is the second largest in Botswana and is famous for its beautiful scenery, magnificent sunsets, abundance of wildlife (particularly its huge elephant population) and myriad of birdlife. The following day we relax on a game viewing cruise on the Chobe River where we have opportunity to get close to riverine creatures such as crocodiles and hippos. A morning game drive in Chobe National Park is optional (own expense).

Kwando River (approx 230 kms/5 hrs drive)

Leaving Botswana we enter Namibia. Driving through the Caprivi we set up camp on the banks of the Kwando River.

Okavango Delta (approx 310 kms/6 hrs drive)

We continue through the Caprivi and cross back into Botswana where we travel by road to the edge of the Okavango Delta. We transfer 2-3 hours by boat to Pepere island in the delta. The following day we do mokoro and game walks on the island and the smaller islands in the area. The activities included are Mokoro trips, scenic boat tours and game walks on the island.

Kavango River - Rundu (approx 300 kms/5 hrs drive)

Departing the Delta by boat we return to our vehicle and cross back into Namibia. We enter the Caprivi Strip (Zambezi Region) and travel to Rundu on the banks of the Kavango River. Our camp is set amongst the lush vegetation overlooking the Kavango River. Enjoy sunset on the deck or a swim in the famous “river pool”. *Please note that World Expeditions does not operate the optional mokoro trip on the Kavango River in Namibia and strongly advises against participation on this because of safety concerns, namely the proximity on the river to dangerous wildlife, particularly the hippopotamus. If you choose to undertake this optional activity with other local contractors, you do so against our advice and entirely at your own risk. NOTE - This differs from the Okavango Delta in Botswana where the mokoro experience is necessary to visit the heart of the Okavango Delta, and the local mokoro guides are extremely experienced and have the utmost respect and intimate knowledge regarding wildlife inhabiting the Delta.

Etosha National Park (approx 420 kms/6 hrs drive)

Etosha National Park is one of the most important reserves and game sanctuaries in Africa with thousands of wild animals such as blue wildebeest, springbok, zebra, kudu, giraffe, cheetah, leopard, lion and elephant making this area their home. Floodlit waterholes at Okakeujo & Namutoni Restcamps attract an abundance of animals throughout the evening, providing us with many amazing wildlife sightings. On Day 9 we enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives (approx 150 kms drive/12 hrs including lunch). Overnight Okakeujo & Namutoni Restcamps inside Etosha.

Spitzkoppe (approx 530 kms/9 hrs drive)

We drive south through the Damaraland region with its vast and rugged terrain. Its mountain ranges are intercepted by wide gravel plains, which run into sandy, vegetated riverbeds and hot, dry valleys. We set up camp among the boulders of the Spitzkoppe Mountains. An afternoon walk is conducted in the surrounding area provides opportunity to stretch our legs and explore. The spectacular setting of our remote bushcamp is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Swakopmund (approx 150 kms - 25 kms gravel & 125 kms tarmac/2 hrs drive)

We arrive in Swakopmund and spend the afternoon and following day exploring this German colonial town with its tree-lined boulevard and shops and cafes or enjoy one of the numerous optional excursions (at own risk and own expense). There are many local restaurants where you can find dinner. Overnight in guesthouse.

Sesriem / Sossusvlei (approx 380 kms/6 hrs drive)

Our journey takes us south through ever changing scenery to our camp located on the edge of the Namib Desert. We enjoy a sunset walk in the dunes surrounding our camp. The following morning is an early departure for Sossusvlei, stopping in the dune belt along the way to witness the changing colours of the world’s highest sand dunes as the sun strikes them - an absolutely magnificent moment. We undertake a 5km walk to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei - starkly beautiful in a harsh environment. In the afternoon we enjoy a short hike through Sesriem Canyon, a natural canyon about 1km long and 30 metres deep in places.

Windhoek (approx 370 kms - 280 kms gravel & 90 kms tarmac/5 hrs drive)

Departing after breakfast we are transferred to Windhoek. Overnight Hotel Safari (or similar accommodation).

In Windhoek, trip concludes

Our tour ends today after breakfast.
