Arrive into Bali, Indonesia

Upon arrival today you will be met at the airport with a transfer to your hotel. Your guide will provide a trip briefing and answer any questions you may have. Ubud is Bali’s artistic heart and the center of cultural events. Surrounded by a beautiful landscape it is easy to see where the artists find inspiration. For those wishing to know more about Balinese art, a visit to one of the local museums would be a great way to spend the remainder of the day. Cultural events such as ceremonies, dances and temple festivals occur frequently and you are always very welcome to observe. Ubud has many good restaurants where visitors can savour a wide range from simple Balinese food to sophisticated European dishes. Overnight: Nick’s Pension or similar

Ubud by Bike

This morning after breakfast we'll venture on bikes to explore the area surrounding Ubud. Following small rural roads, bicycles are the perfect way to experience this area. There will be many opportunities to stop along the way to learn about he local customs and lifestyles, your guide will be happy to explain their culture. After a couple of hours riding, you will have the option to ride on for another hour or jump in the vehicle and drive to the lunch spot. A delicious traditional Balinese lunch will be served in a small local restaurant set among the rice-fields. After enjoying lunch and a rest, you will then be driven back to your hotel in Ubud in the late afternoon to enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Hike with the Widya Guna Foundation

At 08:30 this morning, you will meet your guide from the Widya Guna Foundation in the hotel lobby. Your day will be spent exploring beyond Ubud's town center. The hiking will start from Campuhan Bridge near the famous Caphun ridge walk and then continue to Subak Sok Wayah. Here you will see the life activities behind Ubud cities and the changing life of Ubud communities, meet the farmers, see the their activities at Sari Organic garden. You will have a tea/coffee break at the Sari Organic Garden before continuing on. Then the walk will continue to Subak Juwuk Manis to see other farmer group activities, local village life as well as ancient Hindu temples. We’ll have short breaks along the way to rest and enjoy a fresh coconut. At the end of our hike, we will meet with our driver and vehicle We will drive for lunch to a Balinese family compound, which is also a place for Yayasan Widya Guna foundation. Widya Guna is a place for Balinese children from disadvantaged beginnings, which supports the children in receiving their education when they cannot afford to pay the school costs. Yayasan provides them with food and shelter when they don’t have a family or a home; it assists underprivileged children that need support, such as children with physical and/or mental disabilities and street children - as all children deserve a good education. Trek Mount Batur

Today you will be picked up in the morning around 6:00am. Your driver will take you to an amazing lookout point so you can witness one of the most beautiful views of Batur while enjoying breakfast. Once we have finished breakfast around 8:00am we begin our trek of Mt Batur. The walk starts of quite flat, walking through plantations such as tomato and onion. Next we start our ascent to the Point through volcanic sand and rock. Once we reach the point you can sit back and relax with a well-earned coffee break with a view of the Batur Lake, the enormous crater and weather depending a view of Lombok in the distance. At your own leisure its time to explore the fumaroles and caves and keep an eye out for the local Monkeys that live inside the largest crater, or if you want you can make it all the way to the summit which will take another 40 minutes uphill through volcanic sand. Our descent can take a bit longer as it is downhill and a little tricky in some places. We will arrive back at the lookout point at around midday where you can enjoy a delicious lunch before returning to your hotel.Trekking: 6-7hrsOvernight: Nick’s Pension or similar

Boat to Lombok, transfer to Senaru

Today you will be transferred to Padang Bai and take the fast boat to Lombok. Upon arrival in Lombok, you will be transferred to Sembalun. Sembalun is one of the two key gateway villages to Mount Rinjani. However, there is a lot more to this area as it boasts an abundance of natural beauty, towering mountains rising either side of patchwork rice paddy valleys. Overnight: Pondok Senarul or similar

Trek the Foothills of Mount Rinjani

On this wonderful adventure you will trek through the foothills of Mount Rinjani, an active volcano. Your very capable female guide on this trek is part of an NGO project that trained more than 20 women in the village of Senaru on the north side of Mt. Rinjani, providing them with employment as local guides in their area. She will first bring you to Gunung Rinjani National Park where you will visit a traditional ethnic village of the Sasak people, the indigenous inhabitants of Lombok. You will enjoy some amazing views while you walk along local trails through bamboo forests that bring you out into a landscape of picturesque rice terraces. Following a winding irrigation channel, you enter the lush rainforest of the famous Sindang Gila Waterfall Reserve. The Sasak believe that a refreshing bath behind these thundering falls can cure any illness. Stop along the way to enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the green rice terraces. In this area, you might be lucky enough to spot long-tailed macaques, or even the rare Javan lutung, also known as the ebony leaf monkey. On reaching your campsite relax and enjoy the wonderful sunset. A delicious dinner will be accompanied by a Sasak dance performance. Trekking: 6-7hrsOvernight: Tented camp

Trek the Crater Rim of Rinjani Volcano

Get up early the next day for the stunning sunrise, before descending to the pickup point where a car will be waiting for you and ready to transfer you to the start point of the Mount Rinjani crater rim trek. Firstly you have to register yourself at the Rinjani Information Centre (RIC) in Senaru. Here you will visit the Volcanology Center to check the seismograph for recent activity, learn about the volcano, how the caldera and lake Segara Anak were formed and its patterns of the eruption. Afterward, the RIC will prepare a briefing for you, describing the route details, the local traditions and the things you might see along the way. It also informs about rubbish management and safety procedures. From Senaru we trek through the tropical rain forest up a steep savanna to the Senaru Crater Rim. Here we see gorgeous views of Lake Segara Anak, the volcano lake. We camp on the crater rim.Trekking: 6-7hrs Overnight: Tented camp

Descend Rinjani, to Teluk Kodek, boat to Gili Air

Today begins with an early morning wake up so you don't miss the breathtaking sunrise from the summit. We'll then enjoy breakfast, pack down our camp then start the hike back down. We'll follow the same trails down as we ascended the day prior, stopping to rest at the camps. Upon reaching the bottom of the volcano, we head to the hotel for a long awaited refreshment and some comfort. This concludes our trekking and we will have a transfer to Teluk Kodek harbour, where you will board by local boat to Gili Air (30-45mins).Trekking duration: 6-7hrsOvernight: Villa Karang Hotel and Spa or similar

Following breakfast this morning, you will be transferred to Teluk Kodek and continue to Lombok International Airport where the trip concludes.

Additional Information

The small island of Lombok is dominated by the spectacular Mount Rinjani (3726m), Indonesia's second highest volcano, semi active and held in awe by the islanders. Trekking through tropical forest and scenic valleys we appreciate the incredible views. This tour includes time to cycle around Ubud and a scenic trek of Mt Batur. We then travel by boat to the tranquil Gili Islands where we can indulge in some snorkelling or just relax on its beautiful beaches. We complete this exciting journey on Lombok.
