Redfish Lake: Idaho's Hidden Winter Gem

Find solitude in the Sawtooths.

By: The Outbound Collective + Save to a List

Have you been craving that winter wonderland scene? The one where you're walking on an empty trail, surrounded by tall trees and towering mountain peaks covered in fresh powder? Want to gaze out across an open field of untouched snow with nothing to listen to but your feet crunching in the snow and birds chirping all around you? We've got just the place for you!

While Redfish Lake is one Idaho's most sought after destinations for hiking and camping during the summer months, you’ve got a decent chance of having it all to yourself during the winter. And that's not a bad thing.

Snow limits driving access to the lake so you’ll have to get there by human-powered means; either snowshoes or skis. If you ask us, that’s the best way to get around!

If you’re willing to work a little bit for it, Redfish Lake can provide you with some much-needed solitude and beautiful scenery.
