A nice, steady climb through beautiful Frozen Head State Park with a great view from the top of the fire tower at the end.

Start at the Old Mac trail head in Frozen Head State Park (see the spot marked above). There is plenty of parking and it is easy to find.

Continue along the creek for 0.15 miles then turn left following signs for the North Old Mac Trail (red blazes). Begin your 3.35 mile ascent and enjoy the walk through the wilderness. You will see wildflowers on this trail 3 season out of the year!

Follow the signs for the fire tower and turn right. Don't be fooled; the sign will tell you the tower is only 0.25 miles away, it is really 0.75 miles away (which someone has scratched onto the sign). After going the first .25 miles, you will continue uphill for a steep ascent the last 0.5 miles. Once you are at the top, climb the steps to the top of the fire tower and enjoy a panoramic view. Have a snack at the picnic tables then head back down the hill.

**Note: bring plenty of water! There is no water or facilities at the fire tower (unless you happen to get really lucky and find leftover water from the BM100 that happened 5 days before...)**

After taking a break, head down the hill 0.5 miles. Instead of going right the way you came, take a sharp left and head down the South Old Mac Trail (yellow blazes). This is a beautiful downhill stretch where you will run across many creeks and little waterfalls. It is a little shorter than the North trail, at 2.9 miles. Walk 0.3 miles along the creek you started at, and you will be back at your car.
