Description

The hike to Cummins Falls is exciting due to the fact that you have to trek through a river gorge to get to the waterfall. After two river crossing and some rock hopping you will be rewarded with a beautiful waterfall accompanied by a expansive swimming hole at the base.

Starting at the Cummins Falls State Park parking lot, take the Downstream Trail. The trail will lead you down a few switchbacks before spitting you out into the river gorge. Follow the well beaten path through the gorge but keep in mind when you lose the trail you need to look across the river and most likely cross to continue on. Looking at a copy of the State Park's map will give you a better idea of where these river crossings are. After hiking about a mile you will come to a bend in the river and to the left around this bend the river opens up and you will see the falls. Spend time at the falls enjoying the view or swimming in the swimming hole at the base of the falls.

I recommend you get there very early in the morning if you want to avoid the crowds or opt for a late afternoon hike.

Retrace your steps to hike out of the gorge and back to the parking lot.

Also- this hike is dog friendly and the swimming hole is a great place to throw a tennis ball for your furry friend.
