Description

Added by Jen Seiser

This is more of a long weekend trip than a day trip, but get it on your radar. This hike is a ton of fun and relatively easy. I have enjoyed this hike as a multi-day backpacking trip. Highlights on this hike including time to play in the river, so some rock jumping and perhaps even spot some wildlife.

Big South Fork requires picking up a backcountry permit and heading into the woods. We set up camp in unmarked areas along the trail including in the lower wooded areas and the higher rocky portions. The landscape allows for the perfect combination of star gazing and swimming.

We had some great wildlife sightings along this hike including copperhead snakes, otter and toads.

Be sure to pack your suit and slip off the trail to swim and enjoy the water. Watch out for poison ivy in the summer months.
