My weekend spent shooting the Milky Way .

Starry Night

By: Stephanie Hampton + Save to a List

This past weekend I had the chance to spend two night shooting the Milky Way. Since it was a long holiday weekend I decided that it would be the perfect opportunity to go shoot the Milky Way. The New Moon was Thursday night , so I had the perfect conditions for shooting the Milky Way. The best time to shoot the Milky Way is during the new moon, also 4 days before and 4 days after are also great times to shoot the Milky Way.

The first night I drove down to the Wichitia Wildlife Refuge , which just happens to be on of my all time favorite placeless to go. Ive been wanting to go shoot the Milky Way here all summer. Finally had the right conditions this past weekend . I choose Jed Johnson Lake to shoot the Milky Way at . For anyone interested in finding this location just follow the main road for about 2 to 3 miles and you will see the sigh for the turn in . Since its a refuge there arena lights around so it makes for perfect condition to shoot the Milky Way . Clouds were present at the time but ended up clearing off just enough for me to shoot the Milky Way.

The second night was spent shooting at Ft Cobb Lake , I spend almost every weekend of my summer at this lake . About 3 miles away from my lake house is a point. Ive been wanting to shoot the Milky Way here all summer. But every time I've tried there have either been clouds our people on the point. So finally this weekend I got the chance it was a clear night with no one on the point .
