8 Trips to Fuel Your Wanderlust

Check out these small-group trips to destinations around the world.

By: Sara Sheehy + Save to a List

There are so many different ways to go on an adventure, and at The Outbound, we love them all. From solo travel to guided trips, we dig that outdoor experiences come in so many shapes and sizes. Recently, we've been eyeing adventurous small group trips, like those led by OneSeed Expeditions.

On these types of trips, you have all the support that comes with a curated itinerary and on-the-ground support, while also having the flexibility and camaraderie that comes with smaller group size. Personal attention, connection with your guide and co-travelers, and plenty of exploration in the world's most beautiful places? Yes, please.

We asked our friends at OneSeed Expeditions which of their small-group trips would be great fits for people wanting to explore a bit further out. Here's what they said:

Essential Patagonia

When an escape to wide-open spaces with stunning scenery is what you're after, look no further than the W Trek in Patagonia's Torres del Paine National Park.

This famous route climbs through a stunning forest to the iconic Las Torres Towers. The total trekking for this adventure is between 50 and 58 miles, with a peak altitude of 2,870 feet, making it a doable but challenging experience. There's also the option to hop on an ice hiking or kayaking side trip during this 8-day tour.

Fitz Roy Patagonia

Looking for a different side of Patagonia than the W Trek? On OneSeed Expedition's Fitz Roy Patagonia tour, you'll spend a week checking out Glaciares National Park. During the trip, you'll explore the Perito Moreno Glacier (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), see the famous Mt. Cerro Torre, and hike past turquoise alpine lakes.

Peru Multi-Sport

Multi-sport trips are perfect for when you can't settle on just one activity, or you simply want a chance to try a little bit of everything! OneSeed Expedition's Peru Multi-Sport trip combines trekking, rafting, biking, and zip-lining into one adventuresome 7-day tour.

Mountain bike Malaga Pass, ride Class III and IV rapids, zip line through the Urubamba River Valley, and explore the ancient culture of Machu Picchu. There's one thing for sure — you won't be bored.

Hidden Colombia

Explore the heart of the Tayrona civilization in remote Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains of Colombia. Never heard it? This gem of a destination is reached by trekking through local communities nestled in northern Colombia's pristine jungle.

The 8-day Hidden Colombia tour combines the excitement of Bogotá with jumping off waterfalls in the Buritaca River and making your way to the Tayrona ruins. It's a journey back in time that you won't regret taking.

Kilimanjaro Marangu Summit & Camping Safari

Combine the iconic climb up Kilimanjaro with a private camping safari on OneSeed Expedition's Kilimanjaro Marangu Summit & Safari. Spend the first part of the journey acclimatizing to the elevation before making a summit attempt of 19,341-foot Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Once the summit bid is complete, you'll head to Tarangire National Park in Tanzania's Manyara Region to look for elephants, zebras, and lions. Finish out the trip with a visit to Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was formed by an imploded volcano.

Croatia Multi-Sport

Between hiking, kayaking, and biking, you'll cover nearly 60 miles of Croatia's Dalmatian Coast under your own steam on this 8-day Croatia Multi-Sport tour. Enjoy the rest of your time island-hopping by ferry and diving into the local scene of Croatia's small villages and their thriving local food scene.

Extend your trip on your own to relax in Dubrovnik, where much of The Game of Thrones was filmed.

Langtang Journey

Explore the magic of Nepal on this 11-day tour in the Tibetan border region of Langtang. Hike through the mountains (including an optional trek up 15,655-foot Kyanjin Ri), visit Sherpa villages, and soak in the energy of Kathmandu, Nepal's capital city.

Trek 40 miles throughout the tour, which is a mix of hiking and motorized transport.

Druk Path

Bhutan has a tourism strategy — they want you to come, but they don't want to get overrun with visitors. Because of that, there rules in place to regulate tourism that can be a little tricky to navigate.

That's why this journey with OneSeed Expeditions on the Druk Path is so great. Let your guide manage your permits and entry fees while you enjoy your hike to the famous Tiger's Nest Temple and a trek through the Bhutanese countryside. Travel on ancient trade routes, walk through alpine meadows and yak pastures and skirt along the edge of mountain lakes. The views will be spectacular.
