Description

Added by Joshua Contois

Steep Ravine Environmental Campground is home to 9 Rustic cabins sitting on the coastline just south of Stinson Beach as well as tent camping campsites. Enjoy amazing sunsets from the comfort of your cabin's porch. These cabins accommodate 5 people and offers up 1 parking space for $100 per night. Book here.

Although these cabins are bare bones, lacking both water and electricity, they couldn't put you in a better spot for views of the Pacific Ocean. From your cabin, you can enjoy amazing sunsets, possibly whale watching, and access to trails like the cabin's namesake, Steep Ravine Trail.

The cabins are close to the parking lot and restrooms (clean but no showers). To access the parking area, you need to receive the code from the rangers, which you can get once you've made a reservation. The cabin interiors include a built-in table and benches, sleeping platforms (the equivalent of two doubles, one twin, and one child), counter space for food preparation, a wood-burning stove, and a small closet. Firewood for the stove is sold on-site; you'll need to bring your sleeping bag, air mattress, camping stove, cooking gear, lantern, and other supplies. The windows have no coverings but have clips to hang a curtain or sheet if you want privacy.

With the cabins' proximity to Stinson Beach, you can run into town for supplies or a quick bite. If you're looking to get a night away from the camp stove, head south for 15 minutes to Pelican Inn for upscale pub food.

Steep Ravine Cabins Reviews

You can also grab a tent site- you will need to hike in ~.25 miles from your car. They provide wheel-barrels and food storage lockers. Be aware of feisty raccoons. I was actively cooking and a raccoon snuck up under picnic table and stole a bag of chips! Boldest raccoon I ever encountered

Reservations can be tricky but it's worth it. We had perfect weather which lead to perfect sunsets from the cabins dining table!! The cabins are rustic and offer no electricity but that adds to the charm. Just bring some string lights. Our cabin had plenty of sleeping space for 4. And be sure to check out the beach below the cabin. Unlike nearby by Stinson, the steep ravine beach will not have crowds. The cabin makes for a great base camp for exploring Mt Tam or nearby Pt Reyes. It's a magical place!

So, I did the camping here and not the cabins ($33 a night for the sweetest little campsite ever!), but it was perfect. We came up here after getting off an early morning flight from the east coast, en route to Yosemite. It was definitely a little bit of a detour, but totally worth it for a relaxing night. Just remember to jot down the code, or better yet print out your receipt as I didn't have service to access the gate code from this spot. Great little place to wander around for a day or two.
