We just shut down our business of six years in Virginia and moved West to New Mexico! Odds are you’ll find me on a trail or at a local brewery. Elevation gains are kind of my jam and the goal is to start tackling some big ones...#switchbacksrule

We are so glad we took this longer hike and were surprised how quickly the crowds disappeared. We were actually by ourselves on the trail the majority of the time which was great. The trail is well marked and the falls gave us a great place to relax and eat a packed lunch. Take water!

In my opinion, this is what gave the geysers a run for their money! We are so glad we made this stop - absolutely gorgeous.

So glad we endured all of those stairs to experience this hike! It is down, down, down, and then up, up, up and we saw multiple people who probably should not have made the hike, so be aware of your limits on stairs.

We did the full loop hike instead of taking the ferry and were so glad we made the extra trip up to Inspiration Point. It added a few miles, but was worth the climb!

Get away from the crowds at the shuttle and do the full hike loop around the lake, you'll be glad you did!

My husband and I lived in TX for a while and found this little gem when we caught the diving bug in January. It was actually snowing outside, but we were nice and toasty as soon as we jumped in the spring-fed pool. There were a ton of fish and it was a great spot to practice some skill sessions. They also have a camp ground which was convenient.

May through October the park offers Full Moon Night programs with live music and speakers and it is a great way to enjoy the beautiful park, but also learn a little about New Mexico. Bring layers as nights can be chilly!

5 stars all the way for this park and the climb down into the caverns! We were there in the summer and also got to take advantage of the Bat Flight Program that happens every evening May - October in the amphitheater, it was such a great experience learning about the bats and then seeing their evening flight. If you are just passing through Taos, definitely take advantage of this opportunity, but if you are in the area, there are so many other great things to do at the gorge. There is fantastic hiking, horse back riding, fishing, camping, and rafting (check out: https://www.blm.gov/nm/st/en/prog/recreation/taos/rio_grande_wsr.html for more information).

My husband and I did this hike right after a snow and it was still just as beautiful! The trail was a little more slippery as you can probably tell, but it was a great hike and parts of the falls were frozen so you really got some great water movement and photos.

If you do not have time to do the full hike to the top the tramway is a great alternative (and faster). The tram sometimes shuts down if it's too windy, but it operates every season. The view from the top is absolutely beautiful and there are a few shorter trails around the tram so you can see Albuquerque from one side and the ski resort from the other.

I was so impressed by the La Luz hike, but it is up, up, up so be prepared! We went in August and started the hike early to beat the heat, but it was actually a very comfortable temperature the higher we got. The trail definitely kicked our butt and we totally took the tram down and then took an Uber back to our car, but we will go again next time we're in Albuquerque!

I agree that the New River Gorge is a great place to visit throughout the year, but if you are in the area on Saturday, October 21, 2017 check out their Bridge Day (complete with base jumpers, rappelling, a 5k, and chili)! More information is here: https://officialbridgeday.com/
