Watch the Sunset over Misquamicut Beach
Added by Bryan Young
As the day’s crowds disperse, head to Misquamicut and Westerly Town Beach for the gorgeous sunset over the calm and pristine shoreline.
Misquamicut is one of Rhode Island’s most popular beach locations during the day. As the evening approaches most beach goers pack up, tired from a day of playing in the waves and lounging on the beach’s beautiful sand. It’s during this time, when the crowds disperse and the day begins to turn to night, that Misquamicut transforms from beach playground into a tranquil refuge for those ready to relax, unwind from the day and take amazing sunset pictures.
The best spot to park is past Misquamicut State Park and by the waterslides at the Westerly Town Beach lots. After around 4 pm parking becomes free and the packed lots empty out. Also, you will be able to get a longer stretch of beach to photograph with the picturesque Misquamicut Beach State Park buildings in the backdrop.
It’s good to arrive at least an hour before sunset so you can enjoy the beach and photograph the full range of the evening’s sunset performance.

This is a great beach but gets crowded so sunset in the summer is always a great option. Lots of good food and bars nearby for dinner options afterward!
