Mt. Tabor Park is a quick escape into nature without leaving the city. You'll get great views of Portland and Mt. Hood, making this a good spot for an active, romantic date.

Mount Tabor City Park is located in the heart of southeast Portland and is situated atop an extinct volcano. It’s comprised of more than 190 acres of beautiful Douglas Fir forest and features several relatively easy routes to the top: the easiest being the road you can drive (but what’s the fun in that?). The park is very popular with families as there are tons of fun outdoor options.

There are various combinations of routes to the top – but whichever way you choose to get there, you won’t be disappointed. The 400 ft of elevation gain to won’t feel like anything once you’re posted up and enjoying the view from the summit. Grab one of the benches at sunset and gaze west as the sun sets behind downtown. The views of Mt. Hood to the east are also just as noteworthy.

When you’re done, head on over to Songbird Cafe for some post adventure eats.

Mount Tabor Loop Reviews

This place is so awesome! The view of the city is incredible. Perfect place to watch the sunset!

I expected the park to be busier on a Sunday evening in the summer, but was pleasantly surprised that it was relatively quiet, even with the walkers/bikers/skateboarders passing through. Nice little spot in the city!

This is an excellent place to take a picture of the sunset. Great view of the city, just a great place to snap a few keepsakes.

Beautiful! One of my favorite places to bring out of town visitors before we hit the airport - it's a great chance to wave goodbye to Portland!
