A rough dirt road will lead you down to the railhead of this very short but scenic hike to one of the most stunning waterfalls Oregon has to offer.
After I followed this dirt road to about 2.5 miles from the trail head I came to a gravel pit where you can choose to park your car. If you have a truck, SUV or another 4WD/AWD vehicle you can continue down the very rocky dirt road another 2.5 miles to the trail head and park when you come to a closed yellow gate. I happen to have a gutsy Subaru Outback so I did just fine. Once I parked I headed back up the road that I came from for another 50 feet or so and went down the trail on my right hand side. There are ropes attached to many trees so that you can stabilize yourself shooting down the extremely steep and muddy trail. When I finally got down to the river I walked down the river parallel to the road that I came down. It just took about 1/2 or mile until I turned a corner and there was a panoramic view of Abiqua Falls. It was as if I had entered a different planet it was so surreal. The striking columns created an amphitheatre for this very powerful water streaming down and crashing like thunder. There were only a few people there and most were also there to capture this stunning view. If you are not from Oregon and you plan to visit, this is a must see!
