Jump Off Rock is a large outcropping and lookout point with an incredible seat to watch sunset over the Uwharrie National Forest. This is a super short hike from the road so even folks with very little hiking experience should have no trouble making it to the lookout. This is a great location to get panoramic shots of the the Blue Ridge Mountains so if you're a photographer, don't forget your camera. Be sure to be careful once you arrive at the lookout though - despite the name and Barnes Creek below, this is NOT a safe height for jumping. The name actually comes from an old Cherokee legend about a heartbroken princess who lept from the rock after her cheif was lost in battle.
