Harriman State Park Camping
Tuxedo Park, New York
Description
Added by Jerry Meagher
True back country hiking, backpacking, and camping an hour train ride from NYC.
Take NJ Transit from Penn Station NY to Tuxedo Park. At Tuxedo walk North from platform to East Village Road, make a right, and follow under NY State 87. 50 feet from underpass, make a left onto Grove Drive. Walk up Grove about a hundred yards, and the entrance to Park is on your right. From this entrance you can access three trails; Triangle (yellow triangle blaze, takes you North), Ramapo-Dunderberg (red circle in white circle blaze, takes you East), and Kakiak (white bar blaze, takes you South). Bring a map (NY-NJ Trail Conference Trail Map 118; Southern Harriman Bear Mountain Trails) or download the same map from PDF Maps to your phone. Shelters are marked on map, and camping is expected to be done in sight of shelters. There will be numerous fire rings and sites around the shelters. Sleeping in shelters is first come, first served.
