Fly Fish the Truckee River
Details
Added by Josiah Roe
The largest trout in the lower 48 states and fantastic views of the northern Sierra Nevada.
At just 121 miles long from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake, the Truckee River continues to produce the largest trout in the Lower 48. Fly fisherman commonly divide the river into two reaches – East & West. And just outside of Reno in the small town of Verdi, the Bridge Street bridge is an excellent access point for fishing on the river. Rainbow, cuttroat, brown, and whitefish are the most common fish on the river.
Be sure to check the most recent fishing regulations from the Nevada Department of Wildlife and consult with a local guide shop for the most up-to-date information.
To get to the bridge from downtown Reno, take I-80 west to Exit 3 for Verdi. Stay right onto S. Verdi Road and the left onto Bridge Street. There is ample parking on the east end of the bridge.
