Description

A incredibly scenic waterfall in Glacier National Park that is a very easy walk for all ages and levels. One of two handicap accessible trails in all of Glacier National Park.

Entering from the East Entrance of GNP is a good start. Follow the Road through East Glacier Village and follow the signs that lead you into the park. Follow the main road 49 for 3.5 miles to the Two Medicine Road Turnoff. Follow Two Medicine Road for another 5 miles until you see a parking lot on the right, this is the trailhead for Running Eagle Falls. The trailhead is clearly marked as you drive towards Two Medicine Lake. Turn right into the parking lot and follow the sign to the trail.

The trail is very wide and maintained well, it is also only one of two handicap accessible trails in all of Glacier National Park. The trail is only .3 miles long from start to finish. Prior to arriving at the falls you'll cross a footbridge. There are several places in this vicinity that offer vantage points for viewing these very impressive falls.

Running Eagle Falls is also known as "Trick Falls", because there are actually two separate waterfalls in the same location. During the spring run-off, water rushes over the top ledge for a 40-foot drop, while obscuring the lower falls. As the volume of water decreases by late summer, and the upper falls "dries up", water continues to rush through a sink hole at the top of the cliff before flowing out of an opening in the cliff face, thus creating the lower 20-foot falls.

Two Medicine Road is closed in the winters but it is one of the first roads to be opened in spring.

This is a great spot to stop off and have lunch and snap a few photos! Remember to be Bear Aware, carrying bear spray is always a good idea in Glacier National Park.
