Swim in Cenote Suytun

Valladolid, Mexico

Description

Added by Neonconflagrations

Cenote Suytun is part of a hotel and restaurant complex built around the popular swimming area located about a 15-minute drive from Valladolid. Set immediately off of the old highway, Cenote Suytun enjoys the combination of easy accessibility and a photogenic swimming area with a platform built dead center inside the cavern. When the sunlight shines into the cenote at the right time, it makes for a surreal image.

This, however, also tends to be the downside of this cenote: The water is relatively shallow, about 5 meters at its deepest point, and somewhat cloudy, so those visiting typically line up to have their picture taken and make a short visit of the place otherwise.

There is a much more commercial feel to this cenote than others in the area, with a cluster of cabañas that rent for the night adjacent to the bar and restaurant on the property. The showers and bathroom facilities are modern, from which visitors need to walk a half-kilometer to reach the entrance to the cenote.

Life jackets are required on all swimmers here, and they are provided at the entrance to the cavern, included in the admission cost. Cenote Suytun is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is MX$190 per person.
